Polperro and Looe are two great small fishing villages to travel to in South East Cornwall. They are both full of many fun things to do for the family looking to relax by the beach. Polperro and Looe family holidays leave you relaxed and allow you return to your regular life re-energized.
If your family enjoys walking, this is the place to be. Looe and Polperroare about twenty five kilometers apart and they are part of a network of trails that go along the beach that stretches for over one thousand kilometers from Dorset to Somerset. Explore this scenic trails and stop and have ice cream or lunch at one of the pubs along the way. There is a system of buses you can take that travel along the trail if you only want to walk one direction or start from different points along the path.
Looe is the larger of the two villages and offers a wider variety of accommodations and it allows outside vehicles. You can visit Pendennis Castle, a fortress that defended the coast at different times in history. It offers daily tours and has many activities for children. There is also a café that offers Looe specialties such as pastries, clotted cream and freshly made scones.
The Monkey Sanctuary is home to many monkeys and it is just a short drive or bus ride away. The sanctuary offers a wide range of activities for all ages as well as a playground for youngsters to play on. There is a three day music festival at the end of the summer that is a great treat for the whole family. The beaches are great here and you can spend the day relaxing by the sea. The village has many restaurants and pubs that offer some of the freshest seafood you have ever had.
Polperro can be reached from Looe by train or bus and it does not allow cars as the streets are quite narrow and there is not enough room for them. There are milk floats disguised as trams and horse and cart rides for those who get tired of walking. There are also guided walking tours that allow you to learn more about the history of the village and you can visit the PolperroHeritage Museum of Fishing and Smuggling.
Other things to see that are worth mentioning in this village are the Shell House (a house covered in shells) and the War Memorial. There are many pubs throughout the city that offer up some traditional cuisine and more freshly caught seafood. There is an art festival that takes place on the third Saturday in June that offers children’s entertainment, live music of many different genres, street entertainment, dance, and theater. There are boat trips from the harbor that offer a chance to see dolphins or seals, or just spend the day relaxing on one of the many beaches under the sun.
