Shergarh Tented Camp is located in Kanha, in the forested hills of Madhya Pradesh, also known as India’s rural and tribal heartland. Situated in the middle of India, all routes to Kanha wind through the forested tracts and charming villages and it places you in an environment that is well preserved, with a beauty that matches the descriptions from Indian tales. The camp comprises of six tents, all of which recently went through a complete make-over and upgrade. They are set amongst young woodlands and are individually spaced to give you total privacy from other guests. “Guests zip into homely canvas from mud-finished verandah to a large bedroom, either twin or double bedded with space for an extra bed if required.” The bathrooms are pukka (which means not tented), spacious, with a twin-basin unit and separate toilet and shower rooms. The tents are housed under locally handmade baked mud tiles which shade the tents from the sun, or provide insulation when it’s cold.
The center of the camp features two natural springs which attract a variety of birds and it is overlooked by the main house, where guests can gather to socialize. Activities are more than you could do in a day time so make sure you come ready to have some fun. If you are lucky you could even spot tigers in their natural habitat should you decide to visit the Kanha Tiger Reserve which lays hills east of Satpura Trips through the core of the forest, tiger-watching while riding an elephant, walking along the river, biking, visiting villages and local markets will fascinate you to see these have barely changed over the centuries.
