Surrounded on one side by hills that stay bored at the sun, lemon orchards and olive orchards, and on one side by the sea, Monterosso al Mare does not have to do anything that one falls for it. It is more than enough to meet once in order to realize how much one loves the sea bordered settlements.
While travelling on train from Parma towards Liguria area, one will not realize how many people climb and almost no one descends. When you arrive at the Monterosse train station, one realizes that one will not be alone in his own solitude here, as many people will be there. Anyhow, that is not the most important thing. The thing that this is the biggest settlement from those five villages that form the incredible Cinque Terre area will make you understand better why.
Here you will find a great beach, clear and warm water, of an amazing blue, small boats, yachts, and all kind of things for up and under water – snorkeling and scuba diving. Among all these daily temptations, one can add the parties that are all night long, as well as all kinds of festivals to keep the youngsters interested.
During day time you can as well walk through the old and the new Monterosso, take some photos and put your imagination at work and see how this was like without a railway, with two main transportation means – either on sea or on mole. The new town – or Fegina was built in the 19th century and the beginning of the 20th century.
The old area – or the Centro Storico is wonderful, with its picturesque streets and warm colored houses. Taking a walk on the Monterosso cliff is a must. Enjoy!
