Ruse is an Old Bulgarian city with a rich and agitated history, dating back centuries ago. This city is situated on the left part of the Danube having been regarded as an ideal area for its inhabitants. The closeness of the Danube as well as the richness of this part of the country has transformed Ruse in a main touristic point. Back then in the days it was known as Sexaginta Prista – name that can be translated as “the harbor town with 60 ships”.
This due to the fact that it is supposed that Prista had 60 places of moorage and this is where the name comes from. Nowadays, Ruse is believed to be the biggest Bulgarian harbor and this is what makes it so important. Right after you cross the Friendship Bridge, the one that ties Romania of Ruse, you will enter Ruse. In time, Ruse has become an attractive town for the tourists, as one can visit many places such as monasteries, caves, ruins, places that raise the interest of the people all around the world.
From a touristic point of view, the most important area is the central Ruse that stretches from the old part of the town to the Youngsters Park. This area includes the area of the ruse Keys and it is very suitable for town tours. Like in any town, it is very interesting to see the cultural and historical differences that took place along time. Among the most representative and the most interesting ones, one can see the Stone Monastery Basarbovo. This was found in the 14th century by Basarab the 1st. another place worth visiting is the Monastery from Nisovo. It is located on the rocky mountain; nearby it has a green field, which has many flowers all over it. In order to get to the monastery one should climb some stone stairs or some wooden stairs, by each ones preference. This is one of the biggest churches around here.
Downtown the Monument of Liberty stands proud. This is the town symbol. This was built from the money donations made by the town citizens in 1908. It was projected by Simeon Zlatev and Stoicho Kyarizov. There is the National Transportation Museum that one can visit as well. It is located near the Danube and it is unique in Bulgaria. One will find a large collection of railway engines and époque carriage, dating from the middle of the 19th century and the beginning of the 20th century. There is the Ruse Theater that one will not miss. The thing is that it is an old building, which can be sizable that it was renovated. If you are nearby, there is no way to miss its beauty.
