When on holiday in London, don’t forget to go on a trip to Windsor. Situated not very far from Heathrow airport, you can get there easily by car, train, bus or bicycle. Windsor Castle is one of the greatest castles in the world. The royal family still lives here and during some weekends the queen still comes here.
The construction of the castle started in 1070 in the time of William I and minor changes have been made ever since. The last changes were done between 1992- 1997 after a great fire destroyed 9 rooms in November 1992.
St. George Chapel is the first target around the area. A lot of important figures in history are buried here like Jane Seymour, Henry Viii, Charles I and Queen Mother Elizabeth. A few minutes of silence inside this beautiful chapel are surely not to be missed.
Next the garden – Moat Garden is filled with flowers and it’s a delight to spend a few minutes on a bench and admire its beauty. After the relaxing walk around the garden, head to the Royal Apartments and take an audio guide with you. The impressive paintings, tall rooms and beautifully ball room and the weapons room will definitely impact you. Another attraction of the area is Queen Mary’s dolls collection that is like a magnet for tourists, be prepared for a long queue though.
The day can end with a walk around the town. Your holiday moments in Windsor will be unforgettable.
