A few places in the entire world are as breathtaking as the majestuos Sagrada Familia in Barcelona, Spain. When in holiday in Barcelona, one of the top places to see on your list should be Gaudi’s masterpiece.
The building of the church begun in 1882 and it is not yet finished. It was design by the Catalan architect, Antonio Gaudi combining Art Noveau and Gothic styles. The architect didn’t live to see his work completed, he died in 1926. The name means “The holy family” and the entire building has a rich religious symbolism.
The church has 18 spires, the highest represents Jesus Christ. There are four who represent the Evangelists, 12 representing the Apostles and one in honor of The Virgin Mary. Each of these structures has detailed sculptures impersonating symbols of each of the represented personality.
The facades of the church have numerous sculptures as well, depicting scenes from Nativity to the East, Passions of the Christ to the West and the Glory to the South- not yet completed. The interior is impressive as well filled with laborious ornaments that are astonishing for every eye.
