Full of life during the day, refreshed every minute by the huge national park from downtown (Ekoparken-the first national park in the world) and beautifully illuminated at night, Stockholm is a great destination for the tourists looking for cleanness and peace, but also entertainment, art, history and good food.
Stockholm is the capital city of Sweden (also known as the Kingdom of Sweden), being populated by more than 2 million people. Named “The Venice of the North”, the city is composed of 14 main islands, which are connected by merely 57 bridges. It is a very clean place, it’s mayor being a fan of the ecosystem and implying a strict, modern program for cleaning and refreshing the city every single morning. Getting there has never been easier: the best way of doing it is by plane. There are four big, international airports, the biggest one being the Skavsta Airport, located at 100 kilometers south of the city center. Once in the metropolis, the best way to get around is the Tunnelbana, the Stockholm subway system. This is world renowned for the amazing decorations artists have made in the stations along the city.

When you talk about Sweden, suddenly the word “fish” comes out. Especially the king salmon, or the North Sea salmon, which is one of the best tasting sea creature in the world. The “gravlax” is the famous dish prepared with this fish, which is marinated for 24 hours in a special vinegar and herbs marination. Appreciated around the country, a far more unknown “specialty” is the reindeer meat. Made as a pot, sausage and pate, or eaten plain, this is considered to be one of the world’s most hard core meat tastes. In the end, it all comes to the “Smörgåsbord” or the Swedish buffet, where you can check all of the country’s best dishes. You can end it all with a strong shot of the tasteful Absolut vodka.
With so much history on the squared meter, it is impossible to summary describe the entire touristic arsenal of the city. You should start your trip in the middle of the city, where all the major museums, art galleries and buildings are located. The Old Town (Gamla Stan) is right in the center, along with the Royal Palace. Dominated by this impressive castle, the Gamla Stan is the perfect place for photographers and sightseers, and a huge thesaurus of history and Scandinavian culture.
The “Vasa Museet”, the Swedish for The Ship Museum, is the place you should not miss if traveling to Stockholm. It recently had the 30 millionth visitor in all it’s existence. It hosts the most well preserved Scandinavian ship of all time. Constructed around the vessel, the museum is the only one in the world able to show an authentic war ship from the XVII century, and even stepping on it at special occasions, admiring the hats or the costumes of the Scandinavian warriors. The entrance fee is 110 Swedish crowns, which is approximately 18 US Dollars.
One of the most visited places in Stockholm is the Stadshuset, or the City Hall. The host of the Nobel prize ceremony, you can get on the top of it, admiring the panorama from above, which is simply amazing.
You can end the night with a visit to “Gröna Lund”, Scandinavia’s oldest amusement park, filled with crazy rides and tasty restaurants and bars.
Once in Stockholm, you will feel the friendship of the people, the cleanness of the streets and the quietness of the atmosphere. This is one city you will always remember and definitely going back for at least one time in the your future travel.
